Today’s Wireless LAN Standard_IEEE 802.11a


IEEE 802.11a- specifies much faster data transfer rate than 802.11b,but lacks compatibility with IEEE 802.11b. 802.11a uses the 5 GHz UNII frequency bands. IEEE 802.11b-modifies 802.11 2.4GHz DSSS (Direct sequence spread spectrum) to include faster data transfer rates up to 11Mbps.This standard was the first to be widely promoted as wi-fi Alliance.802.11b was ratified by IEEE in 1999 as an amendment to the original IEEE 802.11 standard.
